BANDS CONFIRMED TO PLAY
POLLY HAYNES
This jazz inspired songstress has been touring new material with her brilliant band at UK festivals and out in California, sharing the bill with multi-platinum artists such as Alanis Morissette, Mavis Staples and Jimmy Cliff. Supported by BBC Introducing, BBC Essex and BBC Suffolk her beautiful debut EP Hummingbird is well worth checking out.
Imagine a parallel world where Anni-Frid and Agnetha played the blues on guitar and drums, in a shed in the woods somewhere in Sweden, and that they came
up with lots of the original ABBA songs that way, before Benny and Bjorn stole them away to a glitzy studio and polished them into disco pop.
The ABBA Stripes take that dream and make it real, bringing the “original” versions of those songs to life in a raw and sometimes hilarious mash-up of
Swedish pop and Detroit rock and roll.
KAYES MENSAH
Rising Tottenham talent Kayes covers a range of genres including hip-hop, soul and spoken-word. Beginning at age 14 writing over grime instrumentals he taught himself production skills to build his sound his own way. Listen up for passionate lyrics over well-crafted beats.
GRAFTON ASH
A three-piece playing harmonious electro pop/folk, recently performing to a massive crowd as support to James Blunt at the Arena in Birmingham. Epic emotive tunes from up coming stars of the Midlands who are building a national following.
SPECIAL GUEST DENNIS BOVELL
Our special guest of the day is a UK reggae pioneer, Lover’s Rock originator, songwriter, musician and producer.
From writing 70’s hit Silly Games and the score for Babylon, to working with a huge variety of acts such the Thompson Twins, Bananarama, The Pop Group, Bobby Kray
and the poet Linton Kwei Johnson, Dennis has been a musical inventor and inspiration thoughout his career.
He now resides in Tottenham and we’re excited and honoured to have him join us today to play some tunes and no doubt regal us with a few stories.
UKULELE SKA COLLECTIVE
Ska music, on the ukulele, with kazoos. Last, but by no means least, we have a lively collective of 11 from Stoke Newington playing catchy, singalong ska tunes from Prince Buster to the Specials and Toots and the Maytals. Smile, dance and have fun!
